Stephen & Courtney | Historic Shady Lane Wedding
There is literally nothing better than getting to photograph the wedding of a dear friend, except maybe getting to both be a photographer AND a guest and getting to photograph a wedding at the beautiful Historic Shady Lane!
I remember the first time I met Courtney. We were at a mutual friend’s house to watch the Bachelor. I was just back from college and was trying to get connected with some girls my age at church. She was wearing a sweater from Anthropologie. For whatever reason, we were discussing the style of the sweater, and I put my foot in my mouth and totally poked fun at it. I’m not sure if Courtney liked me very much that night, but I’m so glad it never hindered our friendship, because she’s easily one of the most caring and genuine people I have the honor of calling friend. We grew close while we were both on staff at our church, and she was there while AJ and I got to know one another and started dating.
A few years ago, Courtney followed her heart and left familiar Pennsylvania to teach english at a school in Buenos Aires. It was there that she met her groom, the son of missionaries, and maybe the only person who could match her penchant for words and spirit of adventure. When the two got engaged last spring, everyone who knew them knew that their nuptials would be nothing short of a fairytale.
To say that Courtney and Stephen’s wedding day was breathtaking is an understatement. Historic Shady Lane was the ultimate backdrop and Courtney’s creativity and eye for detail made it even more beautiful. Courtney is a florist, and so of course she did all of her own florals, which were nothing short of amazing. From wild bouquets to an extravagant wreath handing in the middle of the tent, every flower was perfectly in place.
When Courtney asked if I’d come a few hours early to photograph her details and hang out with the girls as they got ready, I didn’t hesitate. They were bringing in a friend from Argentina to photograph the rest of the day, so I was so excited to be able to be both a photographer and a guest. I convinced Courtney to let me tag along on her first look, and I’m so glad she agreed, because it was one of the sweetest wedding day moments to be able to witness!
Courtney and Stephen, congratulations on your wedding. AJ and I love you two and are so happy for you! May you enjoy your honeymoon and all that is to come on the next big adventure of your lives!
